Curious fact - I got this book recomendation from another book, The Third Door by Alex Banayan
Sharing my curiousity snippets which made me think and reflect ….
sometimes the truth alone isn’t enough, and that presentation of the truth was just as important as the truth
Play only with what you can afford to lose.
Learn by doing. Theory is nice, but nothing replaces actual experience.
Learn by surrounding yourself with talented players.
in poker, in business, or in life, it was easy to get caught up and engrossed in what I was currently doing, and that made it easy to forget that I always had the option to change tables. Psychologically, it’s hard because of all the inertia to overcome. Without conscious and deliberate effort, inertia always wins.
it’s a bad idea to invest in industries you don’t understand, in companies you don’t have any control or influence over, or in people you don’t know or trust.
So my advice is to stop trying to “network” in the traditional business sense, and instead just try to build up the number and depth of your friendships, where the friendship itself is its own reward. The more diverse your set of friendships are, the more likely you’ll derive both personal and business benefits from your friendships later down the road. You won’t know exactly what those benefits will be, but if your friendships are genuine, those benefits will magically appear 2–3 years later down the road.
P.S. I’d love to know: What is the single snippet above that sounds most interesting or impactful to you?
